Voices of Strength: Five LDS Women Who Will Empower You

Apr 1, 2018, 1:20 PM | Updated: Oct 7, 2018, 9:21 am

The General Conference documentary ‘Voices of Strength’ is sponsored by Reproductive Care Center. Reproductive Care Center is Utah’s first private practice infertility clinic with the most experienced fertility specialist staff. With locations in Sandy, Layton, and Pleasant Grove, you’ll find a center that can help your needs.

The Women of Voices of Strength

Whether it’s in business, education, politics or sports you’ll find people who inspire others with their strength. The KSL-TV documentary Voices of Strength profiles five women whose stories and personal insights about faith, hard work and grief are both insightful and empowering.

These amazing women include:

Gail Miller: Her life may seem charmed but Gail Miller has experienced challenges in nearly every aspect of her life: financial struggles, family trials, and personal loss. Through it all, she has had the courage to move forward and remain grounded in her faith. In March she will be releasing a book called Courage to Be You.

Sahar Qumsiyeh: Sahar converted to the LDS church while attending Brigham Young University to study math. Upon graduation, she returned to her home in Palestine. Her story is powerful. She was a Relief Society President who many times couldn’t get through the security checkpoints in Jerusalem to attend church. She shares her story in a book called Peace for a Palestinian.

Carol Decker: While pregnant, Carol suffered an infection which nearly took her life. The infection caused her to go blind, and she had to have her legs and parts of her arms amputated. Since then, she has become a huge advocate for adaptive living and is a motivational speaker.

Lisa Valentine Clark: You’ve probably seen her in any number of commercials or independent features. Lisa is an actress, a comedian, a writer and a producer – but she says her greatest role is wife and mother. She and her husband are the parents of five children. During the last few years, as her career has taken off, struggles at home have become more challenging. Life and death have taken on new meaning as she helps her husband progress through the life-altering stages of ALS.

Justice Christine M. Durham: She was the first woman appointed to the Utah District bench. She was the first woman appointed to the Utah Supreme Court and she is the only woman to be elected chief justice by her fellow justices. At one point in her career, Justice Durham was the highest-ranking LDS Church member serving in the United States judiciary system.
