Salt Lake City Files New Motion In Inland Port Lawsuit, Claims Residents Bear Tax Burden

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Salt Lake City is in a legal battle with the state following accusations of violating the Utah Constitution by hijacking the city’s land and taxing authority over the proposed Inland Port.
The motion comes on the heels of a preliminary injunction filed by the city in June and sets up a potential clash that could lead all the way to the Utah Supreme Court.
In a statement, city officials claim their residents were forced to pay more property taxes for the Inland Port, whereas other cities had the option to opt out.
City attorneys are arguing that is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause.
