SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Drones have become cheaper, easier to use and more available in recent years. The Federal Aviation Administration has registered more than 1 million in the U.S. and expects that number to at least double in 2021.
Every pilot should follow safety regulations provided by the FAA.
- Is it safe to fly?
- What are the weather conditions?
- Are you near vehicles, people or vulnerable property?
- Is it legal to fly?
- What are the flight restrictions?
- Remember you can’t land on or launch from private property.
- Pay attention to temporary flight restrictions (TFRs). Violations can lead to fines, license suspension and even jail time.
- You can look for those on apps like the FAA’s B4UFly.
- Stay away from first responder activity. Just because there isn’t a posted TFR doesn’t mean it is safe or legal to fly.
This industry is relatively new and continually evolving. As you fly over Utah’s beautiful landscape, use common sense and be mindful of how your flight could affect others.
