DWR Seeks Those Responsible For Dead Duck Dump In Herriman

HERRIMAN, Utah — Officials with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources were hoping to find whoever dumped a dozen dead ducks and a goose along a stretch of Herriman Highway.
Conservation officer Jason Anderson said the ducks were discovered Saturday in three separate bags about a half-mile from the mouth of Butterfield Canyon.
“The bags were placed about 150 yards from each other,” Anderson said Tuesday. “It appeared as though a vehicle had driven along the road and dropped them about every 100, 150 feet.”
The waterfowl had all been shot, according to Anderson.
Just last week, 59 ducks and a Western grebe were found dumped in a South Salt Lake dumpster.
Anderson said investigators had no evidence to indicate the two cases were connected, but both shared a common theme.
“It’s just kind of a calloused disregard,” he said.
Anderson said even if the ducks were legally hunted, it is a Class B misdemeanor to allow the waterfowl to waste without attempting to harvest the meat.
Officers hoped anyone with information in the case or any crimes involving wildlife would call the UTiP Hotline at 800-662-3337 or report via the DWR website.
Anderson said what happened to the ducks left on the side of Herriman Highway was “sad.”
“From our perspective, that’s not what sportsmen do,” Anderson said. “In this case, it’s just unfortunate that somebody would do something like this.”
