SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Officials with the Utah Department of Health said they have ordered the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines for the state and they expect the doses to arrive around Dec. 15.

The department posted the announcement on their Twitter account Thursday afternoon.

“These doses will be shipped directly to hospitals in Utah as soon as the FDA formally approves the vaccine,” officials said in the tweet. “We expect to receive these doses sometime around Dec. 15.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will meet later this month to consider authorizing emergency use of two vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna.

Physicians from Intermountain Healthcare and University of Utah Health on Thursday released plans on the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in Utah.

More information on the state’s plan for distributing COVID-19 vaccines can be found here.
