SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The recent prolonged winter storm led to hundreds of incidents on Utah’s roads.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported troopers had responded to 659 crashes and slide-offs since the storm system started on Saturday.
On Wednesday, officials responded to more than 300 calls since midnight, and 188 of those were crashes and slide-offs.
UHP urged residents to slow down “well below the posted speed” on days when road conditions are cold, wet, slushy and/or icy.

Utah Department of Transportation snowplows were working diligently throughout the storm, but they weren’t enough to keep up with accumulating snow in many areas.
“I was driving 20 miles under the speed limit, and all of a sudden – too much snow on the street,” said Brett Wilson, who crashed into a median during Wednesday morning’s commute. “It just took my car. I did one spin, and then right onto the curb.”
He said it’s his first time experiencing snowfall of this magnitude.
Wilson said he just moved to Utah from Riverside, California, two days ago. He was on his way to work and was only about a block away when he lost control and ended up in the median.
“It was a little scary, I’m not gonna lie,” he said.
