The project was created to preserve historic landmarks and update them for traffic safety.
A news release said in 2017, bridges and tunnels along the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway were checked out for safety. Inspectors said the bridges and tunnels are safe, but attention was recommended to increase their life span and avoid more involved construction in the future.
The main goals include general maintenance, historic preservation and updating traffic safety devices, according to the release.
