MILLCREEK, Utah – A group of students thanked teachers in a very special way Friday to finish National Teacher Appreciation Week.
The Millcreek Youth Council put together gift bags to show their appreciation to teachers this school year.
“I love all my teachers,” said Jax Jessop, a sophomore at Olympus High School.
The council divided up duties and delivered gifts along with their advisor, Jordan Hatch, to Cottonwood, Skyline and Olympus high schools as part of National Teacher Appreciation Week.
“After such an incredibly tough year, this just was the least they could do to give back,” said Hatch.
“It started as a brainstorm activity in January,” said Jax.
On Friday it came full circle, 435 gift bags with supplies, donated gift cards, treats and other goodies for teachers, staff, custodians and counselors.
“It was a surprise and I’m glad that that happened, thank you so much,” said Jessica Harris, a science teacher at Cottonwood High School.
This week may be about recognizing teachers, but student’s appreciation is year-round.
“I’ve always felt teachers were like ‘You can talk to me,’ but this year I really learned that I can talk to teachers and they do actually care,” said Jax.
