SALT LAKE CITY — Sixty temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will move to Phase 3 in the coming months, including 13 temples that are open in Utah.

Church officials announced the change Tuesday, saying the transition will take place in June or July.

The St. George and Salt Lake temples remain closed for renovation but will be listed in Phase 3 so patrons in those temple districts can attend nearby temples.

“Phase 3 includes everything allowed in Phases 1 and 2, with the addition of temple work on behalf of deceased individuals,” Church officials said. “Phase 3 will feature smaller numbers of both patrons and temple workers, a limited temple schedule and attendance by appointment only.”

Members of the Church will be notified via email when they can make online reservations for their temple.

“We are excited for patrons to begin using a new online tool to make reservations for ordinances,” said Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “If you find that you need help making your appointment, reach out to your ministering brother or sister, a friend, a family member or a local leader. He or she will be happy to assist you. Some areas will not immediately have the online tool available. However, appointments can still be made via email or a phone call to the temple.”

Thirteen temples will also move to Phase 2-B on June 7.

“Key precautions are in place for temple workers and patrons, including masks worn at all times, limited numbers of patrons in the temple at a time, minimal staff in the temple, sanitization after each temple ceremony, careful social distancing and seating arrangements, and temperature checks at the entrance,” Church officials said.
