Suspect named in Grand County double homicides of Turner, Schulte

GRAND COUNTY, Utah — Grand County Sheriff’s Office named a suspect in the double homicide of Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner Wednesday.

The suspect was identified as Adam Pinkusiewicz.

The two women were found dead at their campsite in La Sals, near Moab on Aug. 18, 2021 by a friend who had been searching for them. Their death date was later determined to be Aug. 14.

The medical examiner determined  38-year-old Turner and 24-year-old Schulte died of gunshot wounds.

Turner and Schulte were last seen at Woody’s Tavern and law enforcement was told that Schulte mentioned to her friends that a “creepy guy” had been around their camp and intimidated them and went on to say that if something happened to them that they were murdered.

In a press release from police they identified Pinkusiewicz as an employee at the same McDonald’s that Turner worked at in Moab, and was “one of many  persons of interest being investigated by Grand County Sheriff’s Office.”

Multiple attempts were made to locate and interview Pinkusiewicz and according to the release, “through continued analysis and evidence collection, the GCSO learned that Pinkusiewicz was in the La Sals and Moab at the time of the homicides, had left the state of Utah shortly after the homicides, and committed suicide.”

From numerous interviews conducted by the GSCO, it was discovered that Pinkusiewicz had confessed to a party before his death that he had “killed two women in Utah” and provided details specific to the investigation, known only to investigators.

The release emphasized that while Pinkusiewicz had been identified as a suspect, the investigation was still ongoing and the case is not closed.

GSCO continues to process new evidence including Pinkusiewicz’s vehicle which was recently seized.

Anyone with information about the case or regarding Pinkusiewicz’s 2007 Yaris, should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 435-259-8115.

Little information of the Moab double homicide has been released up to this point, though unsealed search warrants revealed evidence collected at the scene.

Evidence gathered at the scene included victims’ tent, personal belongings from the tent and car, blood, shell casings, bullet fragments, and video evidence from nearby properties.

The State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on both victims and found the following: both victims had been shot multiple times, the shell casings and bullet fragments found on the scene were consistent with the wounds and evidence collected from both victims, and there was no sign of forcible sexual assault on either victim.

Since the time of their deaths, efforts have been made by friends and family to keep the case active. Most recently, celebrity bounty hunter Duane Dog Chapman, known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, announced he would be looking into the case.

Sean-Paul Schulte, Kylen Schulte’s father, is in Moab this week with a clue booth he has set up to try and draw in more tips that he can hand off to investigators.

“They may have seen the girls’ silver KIA and they may have seen another vehicle close by. That’s the vehicle I want to know about,” Sean-Paul Schulte said.
