SALT LAKE CITY — KSL has kicked off the Road to Zero Fatalities: You Hold the Key safety campaign to raise awareness about the deadliest days of summer.

The “100 Deadliest Days” is the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The campaign is meant to encourage people to take the pledge to follow the ABCs of safer driving:

  • Drive Attentive
  • Drive Buckled
  • Drive Calm

“Far too many Utahns are dying on our roads. KSL journalists are committed to examining the data, exploring the underlying issues and shining a light on potential solutions to make Utah a safer place for our communities and families,” said Leona Wood, KSL TV’s news director.

Each week, KSL TV will take a deeper look at the issues behind this preventable crisis. The series of reports aim to raise awareness, change habits and bring about solutions to save lives.

KSL is also building an online memorial gallery. Families will be encouraged to submit photos to honor loved ones they have lost on Utah roads.

In 2021, the deaths on Utah roads hit a nearly 20-year high. So far in 2022, more than 100 people have lost their lives on Utah roads, which is significantly higher than one year ago.

A few days before the official start of “100 Deadliest Days,” representatives from the Utah Department of Transportation and the Utah Highway Patrol met for a press conference to discuss the issue on our roads.

A widowed crash survivor also shared her story about how a drowsy driver changed her life forever.
