LOGAN, Utah — A number of Utah State University students were scrambling to find housing Thursday after an under-construction apartment complex announced it wouldn’t be ready in time.

Cole Duersch said he just received a notice Wednesday night from the 800 Block apartments. That leaves him a month to find a new option.

“We are writing to regretfully inform you that the original move-in date of August 27^th has been postponed due to numerous supply chain issues and labor shortage that have affected the construction industry from a national and global perspective,” the notice read.

The notice also stated that residents were to be released from their leases and it provided a list of potential additional housing options.

“Three of them were student housing that was already full and one of them was VRBO, which for students that doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Duersch told KSL TV. “Even if you are spending $50 a night, that’s way more than you would spend (on) a studio apartment here.”

It wasn’t lost on Duersch that this wasn’t the first time the 800 Block apartments sent out a late notice to students citing construction and supply issues.

Last year, a similar notice left students scrambling as well.

“It was very vague, the email they sent, and very unprofessional of them,” Duersch told KSL TV.

Multiple attempts to reach Nelson Partners for comment on the situation did not immediately result in a response.

Duersch just hoped he could find a new place in time for the new semester while cautioning others to keep their options open.

“Always have a backup plan just in case your under-construction apartment decides to fall through,” he said.
