LINDON, Utah — A 16-year-old boy is dead and another 16-year-old boy is in custody after a fight broke out Monday morning.
“Really tragic, really sad,” said Nathan Jensen, whose home is where the confrontation happened. “This is totally shocking for us. This isn’t something that happens in this quant little dead-end trail.”
Lindon police said it was about 2 a.m. when two groups met at the pavilion at Lindon View Murdock Canal Trailhead. A fight broke out and a 16-year-old ended up in the hospital where he passed away.
“His injury was the result of an altercation with other individuals,” Lindon Police Chief Mike Brower said to KSL TV. “Can’t disclose the mechanism of injury.”
Brower said the victim and the suspect are not from Lindon and a gun was not used.
“We don’t have a lot of aggravated-type crime in the city, so this is pretty unique,” he said. “Sad on many levels. Somebody has lost a 16-year-old son, friend, sibling. It’s devastating to that family.”
Investigators are still searching for more possible suspects and are asking for the public’s help, requesting anyone with knowledge about the case to give police a call.
Meanwhile, neighbors try to make sense of what just happened in front of their houses.
“This isn’t stuffed you think you have to deal with,” Jensen said.
