With record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures and older schools without air conditioning, two districts and one additional high school have announced changes to a half-day schedule to accommodate students.

Box Elder School District released a statement that read, “As we have looked at next week’s weather forecast and are aware of record-setting temperatures on Tuesday, Sept. 6 & Wed. Sept. 7, we are extending our minimum days (4 hours) for those two days. We will begin school full-time on Thursday, September 8.”

The Weber School District also altered its schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

A notice went out stating: “Early out due to excessive heat on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Wednesday, Sept. 7.”

Duchesne School District spokesperson Jason Young said, “We have one school, Duchesne High, that is involved in a remodel and is without A/C. They will go until 1 p.m. during the week of Sept. 6-9 to mitigate the expected high temperatures.”

KSL TV reached out to other districts across the state, but with the exception of Box Elder and Weber, each of them said their air conditioning was functioning properly, or they had resources, such as swamp coolers, to keep students cool and comfortable throughout the school day.
