UPDATE: Police in Layton have dropped one of their attempted abduction cases after finding and interviewing the driver of the vehicle reportedly involved.

Officials with the Layton City Police Department said this particular report involved a Black Jeep Cherokee with an LA Dodgers sticker.

The vehicle was found and detectives interviewed the driver, where they determined the incident not to be an attempted abduction.

“Based on the information learned the incident was determined to not be an attempted abduction, is no longer considered suspicious, and the case is closed with no charges being filed,” read a Tuesday morning Facebook post from the Layton City Police Department.

LAYTON, Utah — Two reported child-abduction attempts have Utah police asking for the public’s help and calling for community vigilance and awareness.

Friday on its Facebook page, Layton Police Department said in the past week it has received two reports of adults approaching lone children and asking them to get into vehicles.

“We are asking for anyone with information regarding the two incidents to contact Layton PD at 801-497-8300. We also want to release this information to raise public awareness and encourage our community members to continue to be vigilant and teach our kids how to keep themselves safe.”

The first incident, reported by KSL TV Thursday, happened Wednesday while an 11-year-old was walking his dog. An “older” white man in a black hat and sunglasses approached the boy and reportedly tried to coerce him into a black SUV with a Dodgers logo sticker on the right corner of the rear window. Layton police said the vehicle could be a Jeep Cherokee.

That incident was from South Kimball Drive.

Police said the latest report of an attempted abduction was from 10:15 Friday morning when an 11-year-old girl taking out the trash was contacted by a man, said to be Hispanic or Black, in a white passenger vehicle “described as possibly a crown vic.” He was said to be 20 to 30 years old.

“There was nothing spoken to the child just a motion for her to come to the vehicle,” Sgt. John Ottesen with Layton PD said.

The man waved for the girl to get into his car. She ran back inside the house according to police. That report was made from 2450 N., Church Street.

“Again, if you have any information please contact the Layton Police Department at 801-497-8300 and reference the above case numbers,” police said. Friday’s Layton incidents was the firth along the Wasatch Front in the last two weeks.
