Two women go topless at University of Utah football game; police investigating

SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating an incident at this weekend’s University of Utah football game where two women were topless and wearing body paint on their torsos in front of thousands of people.

The incident has drawn frustration from many Utah fans who are wondering why the University didn’t stop the two women at the gates.

The incident happened during Saturday’s game against Southern Utah University.

Several witnesses have jumped online saying they saw the two women outside the stadium topless, wearing body paint on their chests. Others saying they saw the women walking through security and sitting in their seats.

Local YouTuber, family advocate, and Utah alumni, Melea Johnson, was at the game with her husband and two children and says she stood about 10 feet behind the topless women as they walked in.

She said she went to security, who claimed they couldn’t do anything about it, so she shared her frustration on Instagram.

“A Utah football game is supposed to be a safe, family-friendly environment, and there are thousands of children there. And for me, the issue with this and why I shared about this, and to create some noise, and to create awareness about this in the first place… was because this is not a gender issue, this is not a discriminatory issue, this is about lewdness against minors,” Johnson said.

The University issued a statement Monday, saying, in part:

“After two women attended the game topless and wearing body paint on their torsos, a female officer asked them to put on their shirts. They complied with the request.”

“Detectives will follow up this week to screen for any potential criminal charges. Students also will be referred to the Dean of Students for other potential discipline.”

Utah has a law against lewdness — it’s a Class B Misdemeanor — and it could possibly apply to this case.

As for Johnson, she told KSL she would like to see the University of Utah come out with a clear stance that this lack of attire is not acceptable at public events, and that they will do everything in their power to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
