Man in custody after police, SWAT called out to Highland home

HIGHLAND, Utah — A 25-year-old man was taken into custody Friday after he allegedly assaulted members of his family, then barricaded himself inside a home in Highland.
Officials with the Lone Peak Police Department said they were notified about the incident at approximately 1 p.m. Friday.
Family members of the suspect told police that the 25-year-old had assaulted members of his family at his parent’s house in Highland. He then barricaded himself inside the home, making threats while having access to various weapons.
Lone Peak police officers and later the Utah County Metro S.W.A.T. arrived on scene. Police said they negotiated with the suspect for more than five hours.
At approximately 6 p.m., the 25-year-old was taken safely into custody. He was later transported to the Utah County Jail where he was booked on multiple charges of aggravated assault and threats of violence.
