Inaugural Utah Parenting Summit aims to provide families with real-world solutions

SALT LAKE CITY — Parenting isn’t easy. You can go from feeling joy to feeling stress in a flash.

Utah State University Extension is bringing in experts to help parents thrive as part of their inaugural Utah Parenting Summit on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Parents have faced some challenges — especially during the pandemic — so they want to provide real-world solutions to all types of parents and caregivers.

“We’re all doing the best we can. It’s not easy and nobody expects parents to be perfect,” said Dr. Lisa M. Schainker, Utah State University Extension assistant professor.

Experts will conduct six workshops, focusing on topics such as forming a stronger relationship with your kids and learning strategies to empower ourselves, and in turn, be more effective parents.

Their keynote speaker, Mackenzie Johnson, is a podcaster who shares relatable insight on the latest research and parenting techniques.

“It’s a reminder that hey, this is really important and I really need to make time to talk to my child,” Schainker said. “I really need to make time to do fun activities with them or recognize the good things that I see them doing so they’ll continue to do them.”

The virtual Utah Parenting Summit will be held online on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

You can register now and get tickets for $10 through Sept. 30. After that, the price goes up to $15.
