Judge bars cameras from Lori Vallow Daybell’s trial

SALT LAKE CITY — An Idaho judge ruled Friday that cameras will not be allowed in Lori Vallow Daybell’s upcoming trial.

Vallow’s lawyers argued in court last week that allowing cameras would force Vallow to “prove her innocence instead of the state having to prove her guilty.”

In his written decision Friday Judge Steven Boyce agreed and said, “The continued visual coverage of this case poses a great risk to the fair administration of justice.”

Boyce’s order said audio recordings will be allowed with the use of in-court microphones.

Several media outlets argued to allow continued camera coverage in the courtroom under protections from the First Amendment.

Prosecutors supported the motion to keep cameras out of the courtroom.

The trial is set for Jan. 9, 2023.

Lori and Chad Daybell will be tried together for murders, in January

In May the judge granted a request from Idaho prosecutors to try Vallow and her husband Chad Daybell together as co-conspirators in the killings of JJ Vallow, Tylee Ryan and Tammy Daybell.

JJ and Tylee were Lori Vallow’s children and Tammy Daybell was Chad Daybell’s wife.

Vallow and Daybell pleaded not guilty to all charges.
