SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities are investigating a rollover crash that killed two of its occupants Saturday afternoon.
According to a Utah Highway Patrol statement, a pickup track with one man and “one other occupant” traveling southbound crashed into a ravine near Interstate-215 1000 South at approximately 1:02 p.m.
“For an unknown reason, that truck came across all the way to the right side of the freeway and actually went off the roadway,” said UHP’s Lt. Jalaine Hawkes, “and went all the way down the ravine.”

The truck was overturned into a ditch filled with water when authorities arrived. The driver was Travis Weight, from Cache County, and his two year old son. Both died on the scene.
A release from the Department of Public Safety said “witnesses stated a pickup truck was traveling in lane one when it suddenly traveled to the right and left the roadway.”
Hawkes said they are still investigating how the crash happened but do not believe anything “external” caused the crash.
