‘The Training Table’ announces return with food trucks, sauces and future restaurants

SALT LAKE CITY — Cheese fry lovers rejoice — The Training Table is coming back.

The restaurant chain announced Friday it will begin selling its ultimate hickory and dipping sauces on its website, with plans for food trucks and full-scale restaurants set to be released in the coming months.

“We first opened our doors in Midvale 45 years ago, on October 7, 1977 — so we thought today being our anniversary, would make for an ideal time to announce our intentions to serve the community once more and bring people together again to enjoy great food and make new memories at The Training Table,” said Kent Chard, founder of the Training Table.

The Training Table operated for nearly four decades with six locations in the Salt Lake Valley until closing in 2016 due to legal battles between its owners, according to the Deseret News.

“We always hoped that wouldn’t be the last time Utahns would see The Training Table and are proud to be ‘A Utah Original,’ Chard said. “We’re excited to move forward, starting with bringing back a part of the legacy that people loved, and missed most —our dipping sauce and cheese fries.”

In July, the chain’s website caught locals’ attention with a cryptic message about a possible return.

The Training Table was known for its cheese fries and for having customers order food using a phone at their tables, instead of having a waiter take their order.

Officials encouraged fans to watch The Training Table’s social media accounts for updates on when food trucks will make their debut and planned stops across Utah.

Plans for brick-and-mortar locations will be announced at a later date. Bottles of the chain’s Ultimate Dipping and Ultimate Hickory sauces can be bought in two-packs (two-of-a-kind or mix-and-match) for $25. The chain says the two 12-ounce bottles are expected to ship by the end of the month.
