WEDNESDAY'S CHILD

Wednesday’s Child Telethon: Casey Scott, Dan Guthrie, Shara Park Lori Prichard Take Dip In Dunk Tank

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It was a day for fundraising as KSL kicked off A Day for Wednesday’s Child, dedicated to raising money to help children in Utah Foster Care.

Viewers were urged to call 801-575-HOPE or go to ksl.com/adopt to donate money that would go toward school supplies for children in foster care, help kids attend family matching events, fulfill birthday wishes, provide holiday gifts, and fund profile video shoots used for online recruitment. Just outside KSL’s studios at the Triad Center in Salt Lake City, Casey Scott made the pledge to sit above a tank of cold water and risk being plunged into its icy depths if the KSL audience donated $2,000.

The viewers did not disappoint.

At just after 6 a.m. Wednesday, Casey climbed onto the platform. Tyler, one of the youths involved in the Utah Foster Care system, stepped up to attempt to hit the target.

Here’s how it went down:

The soaking of KSL’s talent didn’t stop there, though.

Could the KSL crew raise $7,000? If so, then meteorologist Dan Guthrie was up next.

Was there any doubt the viewers would come through? The $7,ooo mark was hit, and Dan’s fiance got the chance to dunk him. She looked a little too happy for the opportunity.

Watch what happened:

Two thousand dollars? Yep. $7,000? Sure. But could the KSL team raise a whopping $10,000 before 7 a.m.? If they could, Shara Park promised she’d be next.

As the end of the broadcast rolled around, they were shy of the goal by just about $800. That’s when Casey chimed in and made an on-the-spot pledge that KSL Broadcast Group president Darrell Brown would pick up that tab.

That’s how we got to this point:

Caitlin Burchill made sure to share those final moments with Twitter so we could all remember Shara’s face before and after being dunked.

As the day continued on, Lori Prichard promised she’d be next to take the plunge if KSL could raise $20,000 by the end of the noon broadcast.

The clock ticked, and time drew near. As the moment came it appeared the goal would not be met; only $15,000 had been raised.

At the last minute, the Utah Community Credit Union conveniently surprised everyone with a $5,000 donation.

And Lori kept her promise:

Call 801-575-HOPE or go to ksl.com/adopt to make your donation. Every dollar raised is going to help children in the Utah Foster Care system.
