Teen Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder In Northridge HS Razor Attack

LAYTON, Utah — A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and another 15-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Thursday after an attack involving a razor at Northridge High School.

“The suspect actually walked up to the victim, who was sitting in the commons area of the school, and cut his neck with a razor blade,” Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said. “It was a substantial cut.”

Lyman said a school resource officer and an administrator happened to be nearby, and were able to quickly take the alleged attacker into custody.

The school was never placed on lockdown because of the resource officer’s fast action, according to an emailed notice to parents from Northridge High School Principal Brian Hunt.

Police say the teen victim was expected to recover from his injury.

Investigators said it was believed the attack stemmed from an ongoing, “escalating” dispute between the two boys.

“I just had been told that it had been brewing for a little while,” Lyman said.

Lyman said the alleged attacker was booked into the Farmington Bay Youth Center on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon at school, as well as suspicion of attempted homicide.

“Determining what his intent was and statements associated with why he did what he did, we think that’s an appropriate charge right now,” Lyman said. “It was something he planned to come to school and do.”
