Payson Man Known For Life-Saving Wave Honored With ‘Heroes’ Award

SALT LAKE CITY – A Payson man received a special honor by the Utah Attorney General for the small gesture he made that saved a man’s life.

Brandon Baker is known for standing on the corner near his home, waving and smiling as cars go by, and in 2019, his actions made an impression on a man that was struggling.

The man said he was driving up the canyon to end his life, but changed his mind and drove home after seeing Baker smile and wave at him.

Baker received a special honor Wednesday for that small gesture.

Attorney General Sean Reyes saluted Brandon as he received the “Heroes” award at the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge awards luncheon at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City.

“This is your newest special agent in Payson deputized by the Utah Attorney General because I wish we had everyone with heart and love like this to protect our communities,” Reyes said as he put a Special Agent pin on Baker. “We love you. Thank you so much!”
