SALT LAKE CITY – Emmy award-winning TV journalist veteran Dan Rascon has been named the new weekend anchor for KSL TV.

Rascon, who has become a familiar face and name in Utah for more than 20 years, is taking over for the legendary Keith McCord who retired on Sunday after an incredible 39 years in news.

“I feel humbled and honored to be joining the weekend news team and sitting in the seat of a man who is leaving an amazing legacy at KSL. McCord taught us much about the integrity and good that journalism can bring to an ever-changing world,” said Rascon.

“I’ve known Dan for 20-plus years. It’s been a blast to work alongside him,” said McCord on Sunday night as he handed over the anchor baton to Rascon. “I’m glad you are in the building and taking over. You’ll have a blast. I’m glad you’re the guy.”

Rascon has traveled the country and world for nearly 30 years, capturing some of the most compelling, heart-wrenching, and inspiring stories. He’s been a solid fixture in the Utah news market since October 1999. He joined KSL TV, Utah’s news leader, in March of 2019, as a reporter and anchor.

A Colorado native, Rascon graduated from Brigham Young University in broadcast journalism in 1991.

He has worked as a reporter in San Diego, Fresno, Los Angeles, Denver, and Utah.

He has covered everything from the devastating fires and earthquakes in California to the Oklahoma City Bombing trial in Denver, to the 9-11 terror attacks in New York City, to the five-week Elizabeth Smart Kidnapping trial in Salt Lake to the devastating ambush of American women and children in Northern Mexico by the cartel.

He has won numerous Emmy’s and journalism awards for his storytelling skills.

“Dan is a skilled and passionate journalist who has spent the last two decades serving Utah families. I look forward to watching him step into this next phase of his journalism career,” said Leona Wood, news director for KSL TV.

Rascon and his wife Bonni, have five children, and four grandchildren with another one on the way.

Join him starting this Saturday and Sunday at 4:30, 5, and 10 p.m. on KSL TV.
