Wednesday’s Child: Athlete Keith Opens Up About Life In Foster Care

DRAPER, Utah – When you love sports and video games, what better place to visit than Boondocks in Draper?

That is where 13-year-old Keith opened up to KSL about his life living in foster care for the past 6 years.

“It feels like you’re alone.” Keith said. “It feels like you’re just moving around too much.”

Keith said moving from home to home is hard, and he uses sports as an emotional outlet.

“I like to pay football; I play running back and linebacker,” he said.

“He’ll definitely need a family that is going to support him being involved in different sports teams and activities,” said Brooke Hawes, Keith’s youth connections advocate with Raise the Future, formerly known as The Adoption Exchange.

Hawes said Keith has lived a difficult life, and he needs a family that will embrace him and give him stability.

“He’s pretty shy, pretty private but like, he doesn’t go out and tell a bunch of people his story or what’s going on in his life,” Hawes said. “But you get little glimpses of who he really is under the hard shell; he is just a sweet boy.”

Keith said he loves school and learning about history. When asked about the type of family he dreams of being a part of, his answer is simple.

“A lovable family,” Keith said. “When I’m trying to be nice, they’ll care about me trying to be nice to them.”
