SPRINGVILLE, Utah – A Springville High School teacher was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday after students lodged serious allegations of sexual harassment earlier this week.
KSL-TV has not published the teacher’s name because criminal charges have not been filed.
A petition to have the teacher fired included more than 3,000 signatures.
The Nebo School District launched a formal investigation Monday after two students filed complaints.
Also on Monday, community members, former students, and current students staged a short walk-out.
Protestors claimed school officials ignored complaints even though students said he’s been a problem for years, potentially decades.
“The way this teacher treats the girls in his class is disgusting,” said senior Frida Gomez-Rios. “He looks at them provocatively and he’ll make comments about their love lives, make suggestions about what they do with their boyfriends. It’s disgusting.”
The teacher has taught for the Nebo District for 30 years.
