Wednesday’s Child: Missy loves art, hopes to find her forever family

SANDY, Utah — At Color Me Mine in Sandy, 11-year-old Missy couldn’t wait to explore her creativity and love of art.

“My sister got me into art stuff, so I like to do art, and I also like to ride my bike,” she said.

Missy loves country music, school, and spending time with friends.

“We go to the playground and hang out on the playground at our school,” she said.

But more than anything, Missy loves her family. At Color Me Mine, she picked out a fun unicorn mug to make for her older sister’s new baby. Missy has stayed connected to her older sister while living in foster care these past few years and says it’s hard for people to understand what life has been like for her.

“It feels kind of complicated because you don’t know what’s happening with life, and it just gets harder and harder. You think you’re going to go home, but stuff happens and you make a left turn,” she said.

Missy is tired of the twists and turns; she wants the stability of a forever family.

“Family means someone who is there with you 24/7 and they’re not going to leave you by yourself. That’s what family means to me,” she said.

Missy has hopes and dreams — she wants to be a dentist and travel.

“If I could stop anywhere in the world, it would probably be Mexico,” she said.

Missy is thoughtful and kind. She hopes by sharing her story, someone will see those qualities and want to bring her into their home.

“I just want for a family to just see me, look at me and say, ‘I want this child to be my child,’” she said.
