SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox announced on Thursday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
The governor said he began experiencing a scratchy throat Wednesday evening and tested Thursday morning.
“So far, I feel fine,” Cox said. “Like so many Utahns, I’ve been vaccinated and boosted, but COVID eventually touches us all. If you feel sick, please stay away from others. And if you haven’t yet, please get vaccinated.”
A news release from Cox’s office said he plans to isolate for five days and wear a mask for 10, in accordance with current health guidelines.

Cox had a few public appearances on Tuesday and Wednesday, and his office is working to notify “the small number of people considered to be in close contact with the governor: people who were within 6 feet of him for 15 minutes or more.”
Officials said members of Cox’s family are up to date on their vaccines and none have tested positive for the virus.
They plan to wear masks for 10 days and don’t need to quarantine.
