SALT LAKE CITY — A handful of wildfires are making their way across the state over the course of only four days.

On Monday, crews were battling a wildfire in the Mountain Dell Canyon, part of the Parley Canyon area.

Unified Fire said crews have a good handle of the fire they are calling the “Little Dell Fire.”

Only spreading about eight to ten acres, at last check, Unified Fire said there are no signs of the fire spreading.

“I’m not surprised this fire happened. Every year, Parley’s Canyon, all of our canyons, seem to be an issue,” said Ryan Love, Unified Fire Authority PIO.

Love said the Little Dell Fire is in good shape.

“We’re looking at 60 percent containment. Low fire behavior. Low spread rate at this time, so we’re looking good,” said Love.

With about 50 firefighters working to put the fire out completely, and extra help on standby if needed, Unified Fire said based on where the fire is, there’s currently no communities or buildings at risk.

“What is surprising to me is that this fire is rather small. Typically, we see larger than 100 acres fires throughout this area,” said Love.

On Monday, Little Dell Fire is only one of the active wildfires in the state.

One of the fires broke out over the weekend on Saturday in Tooele County.

So far, the “Jacob City Fire” has torched more 3,700 acres.

Utah Fire said they called in help from all over.

Firefighters across the state joined together to fight the flames, plus Utah Forestry, BLM, and “hot shots” from Idaho and Montana.

Other ongoing fires include the Sardine Fire in Logan up Sardine Canyon and the Halfway Hill Fire in Fillmore.

Unified Fire said while the Little Dell fire stayed small, that’s not to say it will next time if the conditions are right.

“We have anticipated hear coming up in the next month or so. It’s gonna dry those fuels out… more potential and red flag warning coming up. There’s a lot of potential out there for a wildfire,” said Love.

Investigators are working to find out exactly what caused the Little Dell Fire.
