UPDATE: American Fork police Lt. Josh Christensen confirmed that 29-year-old Danny Sihalath is the suspect in this incident. Sihalath is currently a suspect in a canceled AMBER Alert for a 5-year-old boy.

Police said the child was dropped off at a relative’s home but Sihalath remains at large after a series of police chances. The car involved in the shooting, with the boy inside, was recovered. Christensen said that the child was in the back seat of the car during the confrontation in American Fork.

AMBER Alert canceled for 5-year-old boy abducted from American Fork

AMERICAN FORK, Utah — Police are searching for a man after they say he fled from police, hitting a woman who had been in the car and provoking police to shoot at him Tuesday night.

According to Christensen, officers arrived at Walmart in American Fork for a theft-in-progress call at 949 Grassland Drive at approximately 8:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they waited for the man suspected of theft to leave the store, who fled to his car. Officers chased him to his vehicle, and began issuing commands to him.

A woman passenger was in the car but got out of it to comply with police. However, the man entered the car and kept refusing to comply with police commands, Christensen said.

The suspect fled in the car and struck the woman while fleeing.

Christensen said a Utah County Sheriff deputy arrived to assist as the suspect was fleeing.

“At some point in this engagement, shots were fired by the Utah County Sherrif deputy,” Christensen said.

The suspect continued to flee in his car, and police began to chase the vehicle but stopped that chase when they lost sight of the car. Another chase began; that one was also called off.

Police are still searching for the man and the car. It is not known if the man was injured. The woman who was hit by the vehicle has minor injuries.
