Utah Treasure Hunts launch another $20,000 race

SALT LAKE CITY — The race is on – Utah Treasure Hunts launched another quest with $20,000 up for grabs.

In June, a group of three people found the $20,000 prize in just eight days. The creators of the hunt said that because of how fast they found it, they wanted to do another hunt.

“Eight days was just so fast that we figured while kids are still out of school, we can start this hunt and just give everyone the last couple of weeks of summer to get started,” said David Cline, co-creator of Utah Treasure Hunts.

The last hunt was a lot of hiking; Cline said this hunt is more city-based.

“For some people, hiking for days and days, it’s harder than solving a bunch of puzzles, but this is a little bit more of a brain buster,” said co-creator John Maxim.

Cline and Maxim also said a new change to this hunt is technology, adding that they are using billboards, QR codes, and their website for clues.

“We have a leaderboard on our website that follows people along and you can see who’s reached what stage, how far behind you are, how far ahead you are,” Maxim said.

But they said the best way to get new clues is by following them on their Instagram pages — @onthejohn and @the.cline.fam.

Cline said there is no time limit on finding the treasure; the hunt will go until the treasure is found.
