Community rallies around Eagle Mountain family after devastating house fire

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — Friends of an Eagle Mountain family of four who lost their home in a devastating fire are rallying together to raise money for them.

Neighbor Sammie Johnson said she can still recall the loud boom followed by large flames that came from the home Monday evening.

“I turn the corner and heard a huge explosion,” Johnson said. “Flames and just smoke up in the air! I immediately turned around and came over the house. The garage was completely engulfed in flames.”

A family member tells KSL the family’s two boys were outside when they saw smoke and alerted everyone inside to get out.

“We are just so grateful that they are all safe and that’s what is most important,” Johnson said.

Eagle Mountain home a total loss after fire

The family of four now has to start from scratch after losing everything in the fire. Johnson said they moved to the home on Trail Rider Peak Drive a month and a half ago.

“They were renting this home and so they didn’t have insurance, they didn’t have renter’s insurance,” Johnson said. “Any little amount will help them.”

“It is devastating but most of all we all just want to step up and help!”

Tuesday night, the community held a food truck fundraiser where all tips and a portion of the proceeds were collected for the family.

“It is devastating, but most of all, we all just want to step up and help,” Johnson said.

Unified Fire Authority said the cause is still being investigated and the home is a total loss.

Friends have set up a GoFundMe* campaign to help with the family’s needs.
