UTAH COUNTY, Utah — One man is in critical condition while another is in fair condition after two shootings near the south end of Utah Lake, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon with Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the incident went down at an arena near Lincoln Beach that was packed with people.

“There’s a lot of people who come,” Cannon said. “It’s not like the kind of rodeo that most of us especially here in like Utah County think of.”

Somehow, the party turned sideways.

“We’re trying to straighten some things out,” Cannon said.

Authorities later learned the party was an unpermitted “Mexico rodeo” serving alcoholic drinks without a license.

Deputies said they responded to the area at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday. Assisted by multiple agencies, deputies located the victims and took two people into custody for questioning.

“We didn’t have anybody as of last night, ‘I saw that guy with a gun in his hand, and I saw him pull the trigger and shoot that person.’ That’s enough to arrest somebody, but we don’t have that kind of witness,” Cannon said.

Later Monday, a man, identified as 25-year-old Cesar Matias Sevilla-Aleman, was arrested and booked into jail.

When police interviewed Aleman, he lied about who he was and refused to corporate. Police found out he had a warrant for his arrest in Denver, Colorado for failure to appear on a weapon offense. He also being held on a detainer by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The man who was in critical condition as of Monday afternoon was shot in the lower abdomen, with the bullet passing through his body, according to Cannon. That man, believed to be in his mid-20s, had undergone surgery. No update on his condition was immediately available.

The second victim was shot in the arm and was in fair condition. He is expected to be OK.

In Salt Lake County, police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened outside the Salt Palace, where thousands were attending a sneaker convention over the weekend.

One person was killed while one person had been arrested. Police are still looking for others who were involved in the incident, including the shooter.
