AMERICAN FORK — A husband and wife were found dead in their American Fork home on Thursday afternoon.
American Fork Police Chief Cameron Paul said an initial call came in at 12:41 p.m. from a family member who found the couple near the intersection at 1400 North and 80 East in American Fork.
“It does appear that both have them at least sustained one gunshot wound,” Paul said.
Paul said that the family member called it in as a “murder-suicide,” but that there were some “unique variables” found at the scene and that they could not confirm that, nor could they elaborate on those unique variables.
“We’re going to require the help of the medical examiner’s office to try and understand exactly what happened,” he said.
Neighbors on the scene described the couple as incredibly kind, loving, and service-oriented. None wanted to be identified but said they had just played softball with the couple Wednesday night.
They were in shock over the news that their neighbors had died and said it would rock this tight-knit community.
That was something Paul echoed.
“I’m sure that something like this happening is a shock and is traumatic to people that live here in the neighborhood. It is a nice area, a lot of great people, great families,” he said.
Neighbors describe the wife as very involved with the youth of their local ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a performer, singer, and vocal coach.
They say the husband volunteered with local search and rescue.
Multiple neighbors said the couple had six children, but police could not confirm how many or any family dynamics.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated as information becomes available.
