ENOCH, Utah – Storms flooded about nine homes in Iron County on Wednesday, filling one family’s basement with muddy water.
“Six feet of water and a foot of hail on top of that,” Brian Johnson said.
Neighbors jumped in to help, scooping buckets full of mud from the basement.
“I was swimming threw hail. I could stand on my tippy toes and bounce but it was everything I could do to keep my head above water,” Johnson said.
More than 50 people including the mayor and police officers showed up to take care of the family.
They tore the basement down to the studs on Thursday.
“It’s still so overwhelming. If we’re being completely honest, every time I came down to give direction to these guys, every time I walk back upstairs, and I just bawl like a baby because I had so much help,” Johnson said thankfully.
He does not have flood insurance and asked anyone who can help to donate to his Venmo account @Brian-Johnson-5575.
