Man arrested for setting his motorhome on fire, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — A 40-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly lighting his motorhome on fire Thursday morning.
According to Salt Lake City police, dispatchers received a call from a woman that a man was having a “mental health crisis” near 6050 West 700 South at 11:08 a.m.
Officers and social workers found a motorhome on fire when they arrived at the scene. The woman told police that the man lit his motorhome on fire with gasoline.

Officers found the man fleeing the scene on a bicycle and refused to stop after commands from officers, according to police. They followed him to a business near 5600 West 300 South and placed him into custody without further issue.
The Salt Lake City fire department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The fire destroyed the motorhome.
No injuries were reported to the woman or first responders. The 40-year-old man and woman know each other, according to police.
The man was sent to the hospital for evaluation and is expected to be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
