Officials Identify Woman Who Died After Falling In Zion National Park

SPRINGDALE, Utah — The identity of a woman who died after reportedly falling 50 to 80 feet while canyoneering in Zion National Park has been released.

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim Tuesday afternoon as 26-year-old Cassidy Brown of Springdale, Utah.

“Although still under investigation, there is not evidence to suggest the cause of death was anything other than a tragic recreational accident,” read a release from the WCSO.

Search and rescue operations began Saturday afternoon after park visitors said they found a female canyoneer that had fallen in Mystery Canyon.

Several areas of the park, including Riverside Walk and the Narrows, were temporarily closed Sunday while crews tried to locate her.

A helicopter was called out to the area, but it was unable to reach Brown because of the steep, narrow canyon walls.

Officials said park medics were eventually able to reach her, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly after they arrived.

Her body was recovered from the area Sunday evening.
