Utah reports 2,297 cases, 17 deaths since yesterday

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health on Wednesday said 17 more Utahns have died due to COVID-19 and 2,297 residents have tested positive for the virus.
Of those cases, 253 are school-age children.
- 131 cases were children ages 5-10
- 53 cases were children ages 11-13
- 69 cases were children ages 14-17
There are 511 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 and ICUs are at 102% capacity, according to Intermountain Healthcare.

Since yesterday, 14,486 people have been vaccinated and in the last 28 days, people who are unvaccinated have a 15.3 times higher risk of dying from COVID-19 and 10.9 times risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19 than vaccinated people.
Children ages 5-11 are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and appointments are open across the state.
While Utahns that are 18 or over, who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over six months ago, are now eligible to receive a booster shot. Those who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine over two months ago are eligible for the booster shot.
