OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University announced it will require students to have the COVID-19 vaccine beginning in the spring semester.
This follows similar plans from the University of Utah, Weber State University and Utah State University.
UVU officials said they are still working to put together the plan. They said they want to balance keeping the community safe from COVID-19 while allowing for personal, religious and medical exemptions. They expect to give more information later this week.
At this time, the mandate will just be for students. The school won’t require faculty and staff to get vaccinated, but that could change.
The school currently offers a free vaccination clinic as well as free COVID-19 testing. Officials say they’ve seen a steady flow of students getting the vaccine.
We are also pleased with the steady flow of students coming to our free vaccination clinic. We encourage our students, staff, and faculty to be vigilant in wearing masks — particularly in our classrooms and other indoor venues. 5/5⁰⁰Read more here. https://t.co/WkiilLSn8q
