Idaho infant dies from COVID-19

CALDWELL, Idaho – An infant has died from COVID-19 complications in Idaho, the first child in the state, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
The baby died in Idaho’s Southwest Health District last month. Officials said they would not release any additional information in order to protect the family’s privacy.
“Our hearts go out to the family of this child,” Elke Shaw-Tulloch, administrator for the Idaho Division of Public Health said in a statement. “Infection with the virus can have devastating impacts on families, and this situation highlights the seriousness of COVID-19.”

Nearly 900 COVID-19-related deaths have been reported among children in the U.S. since the start of the pandemic.
The Idaho Department of Health recommended parents and prospective parents receive a COVID-19 shot as well as pregnant women.
