Matt Gephardt Joins Award-Winning KSL TV Investigative Team

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A journalist with a long history of helping Utah families get answers has joined the KSL TV news team.

Consumer reporter Matt Gephardt will work alongside Mike Headrick and Brittany Glas in the award-winning KSL Investigative unit.

“Matt is an excellent complement to the KSL Investigates team,” said KSL TV News Director Leona Wood. “Gephardt’s body of work is guided by values that match KSL-TV’s commitment to hold accountable those who prey on public trust and provide smart strategies to help Utah families avoid being wronged.”

Gephardt knows the Utah community well, having spent more than two decades in local television news.

At the age of 17, he got his first job in the industry running the teleprompter. After graduating from the University of Utah, he worked as a video editor and photographer before producing consumer stories for his father, Bill Gephardt.

“I really did grow up in this industry,” said Gephardt. “I never had aspirations to be on camera – that sort of happened by accident when my dad was getting out of the business.”

That was almost ten years ago. Since then, Gephardt has won multiple regional Emmys and helped change laws at the local, state and federal level with his investigations.

“Matt has dedicated himself and his career to helping people navigate difficult situations. I know his work ethic and am excited to have him bring his talents to the award-winning investigative team at KSL,” says Tanya Vea, Sr. Vice President, Bonneville Salt Lake.

Gephardt says he’s thrilled for the opportunity to continue helping Utahns.

“There is something really, really romantic about doing local news for a company that is locally owned,” said Gephardt. “That is very rare in this industry, and it’s really appealing.”

And he can’t imagine doing anything else.

“It’s really cool to be able to go home at the end of the night and feel like you contributed positively to your community,” he said.

“I’ve worked alongside Matt before and will tell you he genuinely cares about helping people and giving voice to those who are often ignored,” said Headrick. “He brings experience, depth and a skill set that will only strengthen the KSL investigative team.”

Gephardt’s talent for consumer stories will round out the KSL Investigative team.

“Mike is one of the best investigative reporters in the country. I feel like Brittany has been a fabulous addition – she really digs in on the day’s news. I’m hoping to add that troubleshooter, that watchdog element,” said Gephardt.

“I look forward to working with Matt and building a powerhouse investigative unit in the market,” said Glas. “There’s no doubt KSL-5 TV will be the go-to station for investigative journalism that matters and really makes a difference.”

Gephardt will be on the air weeknights at 6:00 p.m. If you have something you want him to investigate, email matt@ksl.com. To reach the full team, submit a tip on KSLInvestigates.com.
